Sewage heat recovery at Borders College
Project managed the UK's first sewage heat recovery installation, coordinating Borders College, the technology provider, Scottish Water Operations and regulatory stakeholders.
What changed
The scheme was delivered and received the Green Gown Award for Best Newcomer in 2017 and Scottish Green Energy Award for Best Innovation in 2018.
How evidence was used
Temperature monitoring linked to telemetry showed that modest rainfall changed inlet temperature more than the installed system did. That finding reframed the operational concern as something that could be tested rather than assumed.
What followed
The demonstrator became a platform for further heat-from-wastewater opportunities, customer engagement, industry visits and Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme funding bids.
